UTI, also known as urinary tract infection is a common problem for both men and women. A person who has UTI may have an urgent need to go to the toilet. The bathroom trips become frequent. While passing urine, you may pass just a little urine and you may have a burning sensation.

UTI occurs when the bacteria is attached to the bladder, usually in the area of the wall of the bladder. UTI can also occur due to sexual intercourse. Sometimes, people who have to wait for a long time to pass urine can get UTI. Some other conditions that may cause UTI are menopause and diabetes.

Pregnant women can also suffer from urinary tract infection. UTI is a painful condition. If you have UTI for more than 2 days, you may need to consult a doctor. There can be kidney infection if the UTI is left untreated. Home remedies help in treating UTI. Some of the best home remedies for urinary tract infection are as follows.


Home Remedies for Urinary Tract Infection

Baking Soda

Add one-teaspoon baking soda the water you drink. The baking soda helps in neutralizing the urine acidity, thus helping you in recovering from the infection. Take baking soda only in dissolved form, or it can cause injury.

If you decide to take baking soda for UTI, you must ensure that you take Vitamin C along with it. Do not take baking soda more than 14 days. Do not take baking soda if you have hypertension, and diseases of kidney as well as liver.


Blueberries

If you have UTI, you must eat blueberries. Blueberry helps in inhibiting bacteria. The berry contains some ingredients, which prevent the bacteria from becoming attached to the bladder. Due to this, the bad bacteria are removed from the bladder through the urine.

You can drink blueberry juice or mix these berries with the morning cereal. You can mix blueberry with yogurt or salad. You can also take blueberry supplement.


Cranberry Juice

You must drink cranberry juice as it helps in preventing UTI. Cranberry juice does not allow the bacteria to survive in the bladder. The juice is an antibiotic.

You must drink four ounce of the juice daily to prevent UTI. If you are already infected with UTI, you must drink two to four glasses of the juice daily. Patients who take blood-thinning medicines like warfarin should not drink cranberry juice.


Pineapple

Eat pineapple for UTI. Pineapple contains bromelain enzyme, which helps in fighting UTI. Eat one cup of pineapple daily regularly. You can also drink pineapple juice.


Drink Water

If you have UTI, you must drink lots of water and other fluids. Intake of fluids will help in flushing the bacteria out of the body through urine.

Fluid intake helps in hydration of the body. You can also drink other types of healthy drinks. You should avoid caffeine and alcohol.


Vitamin C

If you have UTI, you must take 5,000 mg Vitamin C daily. Vitamin C acidifies the urine and prevents harmful bacteria to survive in the bladder. It helps in healing the infection. If you take antibiotics, you must take Vitamin C only after consulting a doctor.
