Home Remedies For Yeast Infection

Share

Yeast infection is quite common amongst women. At least ninety percent women experience this miserable condition, which is accompanied by thick white vaginal discharge, itching and irritation at least once in their lifetimes. Yeast, also called Candida, grows in dark moist areas like vagina or mouth. Vagina naturally contains yeast which exists in harmony with other friendly vaginal microorganisms.

When this harmony is disrupted due to some reasons like hormonal imbalance or use of antibiotics, the growth of invasive bacteria overpowers the friendly bacteria as antibiotics kills both the bacteria and yeast grows quickly and causes yeast infection. The women who use contraceptives, have compromised immune system due to disease, lack of sleep, stress or consume refined sugar and alcohol are more prone to yeast infections as all these cause an overgrowth of yeast.

However, there are number of home remedies that can help to fight yeast infection very effectively. Here are few of them that work best.

Home Remedies For Yeast Infection

Plain Yogurt

Yogurt contains live bacteria culture, which is a great remedy for fighting yeast infection. The friendly bacteria present in yogurt helps to restore the acid-bacteria balance. Eating yogurt as well as using it externally can be beneficial for treating yeast infection. But it should be plain and unsweetened.

You can use yogurt for douching after diluting with warm water or insert 1-2 table spoons of yogurt in the vaginal area.  You can also insert a tampon dipped in yogurt into the vagina. You can also insert lactobacillus vaginal tablets in the vagina to get relief from vaginal discomfort.

Garlic

Another effective home remedy that can provide fast relief from yeast infection is the use of garlic. Garlic contains anti-fungal properties that clears yeast infection and provides soothing relief. You can either insert raw garlic clove or garlic capsule available in drug stores 2-3 times a day into the vagina or swallow a garlic clove with water 2-3 times a day. Also prepare meals by adding garlic in them.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is also very effective due to its anti-fungal properties for curing yeast infection.  It contains ingredients like terpinen-4-ol that kills Candida yeast. Mix 2-3 drops of tea tree oil with two tablespoons of vegetable oil and rub directly on the infected area to find relief.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Dilute apple cider vinegar with equal amount of water and wash the vaginal area to restore the acidic pH of the vagina and find relief from itching and burning.  .

Cranberry Juice

Take cranberry capsule or drink a glass of unsweetened cranberry juice every day. Cranberry juice will lower the acidic pH level of your body and give protection against yeast infection.

Boric Acid

The anti-fungal properties of boric acid can kill bacteria and restore the balance of yeast in the body. This is considered safe and inexpensive for treating yeast infection. Insert boric acid capsule as a suppository into the vagina once a day for a week to get relief from yeast infection.

Things To Avoid While Fighting Yeast Infection

Avoid taking birth control pills which weakens the immune system and makes you susceptible to yeast infection.  Also avoid douching too often. Yeast organism flourish in warm moist condition. Dry the vaginal area properly after bathing and wear cotton and breathable underwear. Avoid refined, processed and sugary foods as yeast thrives on sugar. Practice good hygiene.
