Bronchitis refers to the inflammation of the bronchial tubes of the lungs. It results in several painful symptoms that include difficulty in breathing, hoarseness, coughing and fever.
Smoking, severe weather changes and other such external irritants are some of the most common causes for bronchitis. The condition can become severe and chronic if not treated properly in time. Following are some of the best natural ways to cure it naturally.
Gargling with warm saltwater is the simplest yet the most effective home remedy to treat bronchitis. When you suffer from bronchitis, a coating of mucus irritates the sensitive membranes of your throat. When the warm saltwater reaches there, it removes the mucus coating and also soothes the inflammation in the throat, which eventually clears the airways in the lungs and makes you feel very relieved. However, you are advised not to use too much of salt because it may result in burning sensation in the throat.
But, using too little of salt is also not a wise idea because it will make the remedy ineffective. Do not gulp down the saltwater; spit it out after gargling.
Bronchitis sometimes also results in a sore throat. In such condition, you should get one cup of warm water, mix one tsp. of lemon juice in it and then gargle with the resulting mixture. It will make it easier for your throat to bring up phlegm. You can prepare another lemon remedy by boiling a lemon wedge in one glass of water. Filter the liquid. Drinking it will provide you great relief.
Get some honey in a bowl and then mix some slices of onions into it. Do it at night before you retire to bed. Next morning, remove the onion slices.
Taking one tsp. of the remaining honey can be very beneficial. Use this remedy 3-4 times daily. It should relieve the cough and other symptoms of bronchitis quite significantly in just 2-3 days.
Highly rich in magnesium, calcium and potassium, almonds carry powerful natural abilities to treat an array of respiratory problems. Therefore, you are strongly recommended to eat lots of almonds. You can mix almonds in citrus fruit salad. You can also prepare a special remedy for bronchitis by coating almonds with cinnamon, rubbing it in a little honey and then roasting it in the oven for 15-20 minutes at 325°F.
Bay leaf is a popular herb used to treat bronchitis. You can prepare a poultice by soaking some bay leaves in hot water. Apply this poultice (while it is still reasonably warm) to the chest. Covering it with a soft towel will bring faster results. Warm the poultice again after it cools down.
Alternatively, you can prepare a herbal tea for bronchitis by steeping some dried or fresh leaves in one cup of boiling water. The tea thus prepared works as a very effective expectorant. Drink this tea a couple of times daily.
Overall, there are lots of natural remedies for bronchitis. You are advised to try these remedies without any delay because the condition may worsen badly if left untreated for a few days.
