11 Cures To Edema

Share

Edema is a condition characterized by swelling of the body caused by fluid retention or fluid accumulation in the tissues beneath the skin. The legs and feet are the most common targets.

The condition can sometimes indicate the presence of other diseases or ailments, which include liver cirrhosis. But, in general, edema can be caused due to some allergies, standing for long time, poor blood circulation and injuries. Following are some of the most effective natural remedies for edema.

How to Cure Edema Naturally

Cucumber and Potato

Cut a cucumber and a potato into thin slices. Place the cucumber slices on the swelling areas. Then, cover those cucumber slices with potato slices and tie the area with a cloth. It will alleviate swelling.

Flaxseed

Sprinkle flaxseed powder (crush the seeds to turn it in powdered form) on your foods. Use this remedy at least three times a day, with all your regular meals. Alternatively, you can also massage the swelled areas gently with flaxseed oil for faster relief from edema.

Mustard Oil

Put some mustard oil in a bowl. Warm it a little. Soak a cotton ball in it and apply it to the swelled areas. You can even massage those areas gently with warm mustard oil for faster relief.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Sometimes edema may also cause itching. In such cases, you should apply apple cider vinegar over the swelling. Besides relieving itching, it also alleviates swelling.

Coriander Seeds

Mix 2-3 tablespoons of coriander seeds in one glass of water. Boil it at medium heat until the mixture is reduced to half. Drink it when it is still a little warm. This remedy generally works in all types of edema.

Barely Water

Drinking barely water can also reduce swelling. This remedy is particularly more beneficial in treating pregnancy-induced edema.

Keep Your Legs Up While Sleeping

If you are suffering from edema in feet or legs, you are advised to keep pillow under your legs to keep the affected areas slightly up in contrast with the rest of your body parts. It is one of the easiest yet very effective natural remedy for edema. Normal edema, such as the one caused by standing for a long time, can be cured overnight.

Running Cold Water

If edema is caused in feet, you should keep the swelling part of the feet under the running cold water for fifteen minutes. It will provide you instant relief from swelling. However, it is not a permanent treatment.

Warm Beverages

Drinking warm beverages, such as a cup of warm tea or water, also helps in relieving the symptoms of edema. Take it 2-3 times daily.

Tea Tree Oil

Sometimes, even insect bites can cause edema. In such cases, you can relieve pain and swelling by applying tea tree oil over the affected areas.

Dietary and Lifestyle Changes

Excessive salt intake can worsen the condition of edema. Therefore, you must cut down your salt intake to as low as possible. Smoking and alcohol should also be avoided for the same reason.

In addition to that, you are also advised to increase your intake of leafy and fibrous vegetables. Remember, edema is not a disease but a symptom that indicates that there is something wrong with the functions of the body. If edema is not cured within 2-3 days, you must consult your doctor.
