Natural Cure For GERD

Share

GERD stands for gastro-esophageal reflux disease. It is a painful condition, where the symptoms may include chest pain, heartburn and belching. It happens because of the splashing of acid and food from stomach to esophagus.

Though it is not a very serious problem in the beginning and can be treated easily using medications and even just through some simple natural remedies, but if left untreated, the condition may worsen and may lead to serious health disorders. Following are some of the most effective remedies to treat GERD naturally.

Natural Cure For GERD

Aloe Vera Juice

Mix one ounce of organic aloe vera juice in two ounces of water. Drink this mixture before every meal. It will provide you great relief from heartburn and other symptoms of GERD.

The aloe vera juice also helps in digestion which further speeds up the recovery process.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Mix one tbsp. of raw apple cider vinegar in four ounces of water. Drink this mixture before every meal. Even if you are suffering from acute episodes of acid reflux, this simple natural remedy will provide you great relief very quickly.

Licorice

You can buy licorice from health food stores. Look for the one with the label ‘deglycyrrhizinated licorice’ or ‘DGL’. Licorice contains a component called glycyrrhizin that can cause some side effects (like high blood pressure) for the person suffering from acid reflux.

DGL is a specific form of licorice where this component is already removed. It means ‘deglycyrrhizinated licorice’ is very safe and more effective. Taking it in proper dosage can be very helpful in inhibiting the growth of harmful stomach bacteria and in reducing heartburn and inflammation caused by acid reflux. DGL also coats the stomach with a protective gel.

Glutamine

Glutamine is a type of amino acid that human body creates naturally, but when you suffer from acid reflux, its production gets affected. Therefore, taking glutamine supplement can be very beneficial. You can consume it through food sources also, such as spinach, parsley, fish, eggs and milk. The natural anti-inflammatory properties of glutamine have been found to be very effective in curing intestinal inflammation caused by GERD.

Turmeric

Turmeric contains powerful carminative, antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties. It can be very helpful in reducing GERD-induced inflammation and irritation on the digestive tract.

It adds a protective coating on your digestive tract. Acid influx affects the digestion process adversely; turmeric normalizes it.

Marshmallow

Marshmallow is one of those herbs that have been used since ancient times to treat a wide array of health conditions that include GERD, indigestion, stomach ulcers and inflammatory bowel diseases. The anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic properties of marshmallow make it a very useful herb to treat acid reflux and the symptoms caused by it. It relives the inflammation on the gastrointestinal tract and soothes irritation of the mucus membrane on the digestive tract.

While you are using the above natural remedies for GERD, you must avoid some problem foods that are known to worsen the condition of acid reflux, such as citrus juice, spicy foods, fatty foods, black pepper, garlic, raw onions, tomatoes, peppermint and even chocolates.
