Natural Cure For Migraine

Share

Migraine is a condition characterized by severe headache, usually on just one part of the head. The condition can be caused due to excessive drinking or smoking, improper sleep, consistent overwork, nutritional deficiency, allergy infections, low blood pressure and excessive intake of certain drugs.

Common symptoms include headache, weakness or numbness in one leg or arm, vomiting, nausea and also a short period of irritability and depression. Many migraine patients also experience loss of appetite and difficulty in concentrating. Following are some of the proven natural ways to cure migraine.

Natural Ways To Cure Migraine

Carrot Juice

Carrot juices can be used in combination with other vegetable juices, such as cucumber, beet and spinach. Mix 300 ml of carrot juice and 100 ml each of cucumber and beet juices. Alternatively, you can mix 300 ml of carrot juice with 200 ml of spinach juice. Drink either of the mixture twice daily to relieve migraine symptoms.

Lemon Crust

Grind lemon crust to form a paste. Apply it to the forehead and leave it for 15-20 minutes. Then, wash it off with normal water. The best thing about this natural remedy for migraines is that its effects last very long.

Cabbage Leaf Compress

Pack some crushed cabbage leaves in a soft, thin cotton cloth. Bind it on your forehead for as long as needed. But, once the leaves dry out, you must replace the same with fresh ones. It relieves pain and inflammation caused by migraine.

Grapes

Grind fresh ripe grapes and extract one cup of grape juice. Do not add water. Drink it two times daily.

Basil Oil

Inhale the strong-scented basil oil. It is a wonderful natural muscle relaxant that can be very effective in relieving headache, stress, lack of concentration and other symptoms of migraine. You can use this remedy as and when you notice the initial signs of a migraine attack.

Peppermint Oil

You can also inhale the vapor of peppermint oil for 2-3 times daily. You can put peppermint oil in a small bottle and bring it closer to your nose; inhale deeply. It improves blood flow and opens up the respiratory passages, allowing more oxygen to get into the bloodstream. Since poor blood flow is one of the major causes for migraine, this remedy can provide you great relief.

Lavender Oil

Applying lavender oil topically on your forehead and inhaling its vapors are two of the best natural remedies for migraine. However, you should never take it orally. When applying on your forehead, there is no need to dilute the oil. For the vapor remedy, you should mix 2-3 drops of lavender oil in 2-3 cups of boiling water.

Sandalwood Powder

Prepare a paste by mixing a few drops of water in sandalwood powder. Apply it on your forehead and leave it for an hour. The paste will dry up. You can then wash it with normal water.

Chamomile Tea

Prepare a chamomile tea by mixing one tsp. of the herb in one cup of boiling water. Stir it thoroughly and sip it hot. It does not just relieve migraine headache but also reduces the frequency of migraine attacks in future.

Garlic

Chew a piece of garlic in raw form, once everyday. You can also chew it during a migraine attack to get instant relief. In addition to that, you must use garlic liberally in your foods.

Fish Oil

Massage your forehead with fish oil. It prevents constriction in the blood vessels and provides you great relief from migraine headache.

Primrose Oil

Massaging your forehead with primrose oil is also beneficial and produces similar results.

Feverfew

You can prepare a herbal tea using feverfew by steeping ½ teaspoon of the herb in one cup of hot water. It relieves headache caused by migraine. Also, if you drink this tea once daily, it will reduce the frequency of further migraine attacks.

Lukewarm Water Enema

Poor indigestion and bowel disorders also cause migraine. If that is the case, you can consider taking a lukewarm water enema. It will remove toxins from the body by cleansing the bowels.

Scalp Massage

Scalp massage is a proven remedy to relieve migraine headache. Lie down in a bed in a quiet darkened room. Have someone to massage your scalp, but not the temples. Alternatively, you can do it yourself. For faster relief, put an ice-towel wrap on your eyes and forehead. You will get great relief within just 5-10 minutes. But, if it doesn’t relieve headache in ten minutes, try something else.

Fasting With Water And Orange Juice

Fasting is the best natural way to cleanse your body of toxins. It also helps in the treatment of migraine, especially when you fast for two to three days and live only on water and orange juice. Cucumber and carrot juices can also be used to replace orange juice.

For faster relief, you must take warm water enema once daily, especially during these 2-3 days of fasting.

Walking In Fresh Air

Last but not the least, walking in fresh air, preferably early in the morning, is also an important part of migraine treatment. However, exposure to direct sunlight should be avoided.

Drink Plenty Of Cool Plain Water

Sometimes, migraine attacks are caused due to excessive exposure to heat. If you always feel headache after coming back home from long hours of work in the sun, this is probably the case with you. In such condition, the first thing you should do is to drink lots of cool plain water as soon as you arrive home. Even in general, keeping yourself thoroughly hydrated throughout the day is an important part of migraine treatment.

Dietary Changes

For best results out of the above-mentioned natural remedies for migraine, you should eat niacin-rich foods, such as fish, liver, sunflower seeds, nuts, tomatoes, green leafy vegetables, whole wheat and yeast. Also, avoid foods that can worsen the migraine condition, such as sauces, condiments, pickles, preserved or tinned foods, greasy foods, refined cereals, sweets, pastries, cakes, excessive sugar and white flour products.

Since lack of sleep and excessive work are two major factors that cause migraine attack, you are advised to keep yourself relaxed and plan your daily routine accordingly. The idea is to give your body proper rest and adequate amount of sleep (at least 6-7 hours) daily.
