5 Cure For Night Cramps

Night cramps is a condition in which the muscles contract involuntarily. Normally the muscles contract and relax voluntarily when we move. The causes for night cramps are; weight gain, excessive physical work or sudden exercises, low level of calcium in the body, and there a lot more causes.

The symptoms are; the cramped muscles become harder and you can see it through the skin and the cramp last longer than expected. The following points prove as a good natural cure for night cramps.

Effective Natural Cures For Night Cramps

Massage

Lightly massage the affected muscles with your fingers using some kind of oil like mustard or baby oil. Stretch and loosen the muscles gently. There are several ways to massage affected body parts to get relief from the cramps.

You may roll the muscles, using effective oils, slightly with the tip of your fingers. A back and forth movement might be of help too but see that you don’t press on the affected area too hard.

Drink Water

Drink water to stay hydrated. Dehydration is the root cause of night cramps many times and it can lead affecting the whole body with several other problems.

It is necessary you drink fluids as much as possible and including energy giving juices too help you to get relief faster. Drink at least 8 to 10 glasses of pure water every day. If you exercise a lot or perspire a lot you will need this amount of water.

Cold And Hot Compression

Applying packs of ice on the affected area can help you to relieve pain and relax the aggravated muscle. We all know that ice is good for reducing pain as it numbs the area which it is cooling. Same goes for hot compressions.

Compress the area with a hot water bag full of hot water. Heat gives the contracted muscle a feeling of relaxation. It soothes the pain away in minutes. You can even take a warm bath to get a good night’s sleep.

Actions Before Sleeping

When you sleep you may put a pillow or soft cushion underneath your feet. This will raise your leg to a height giving you a sense of relaxation. In case you prefer sleeping on your stomach you can hang your feet over the edge of your bed.

Wear proper clothes and comfortable shoes during the day, so that they don’t wake you in the night due to cramps. Sleep under loose blankets, do the stretching and massaging without fail. It also helps as a natural cure for night cramps.

Do Relaxing Exercises

There are exercises you will have to do before going to bed. Massaging is the first of all. A good massage is required to warm the area up and after that you must try stretches. Rest flat on your bed and stretch the muscles that pain the most.

For example if it leg cramps you’re facing, try stretching and relaxing the calves 10 to 12 times. This will help you a good night’s sleep by keeping you away from cramps. It is a natural cure for night cramps and you must try this every night.
