5 Cure For Sciatica

Share

Sciatica is a nerve that runs from lower back and along the legs. Sciatica pain occurs when the nerve gets pressed or strained due to certain reasons. It is not a disorder but sciatica pain may indicate other problems related to the spine.

A person feels a throbbing pain and numbness in either right or left leg and faces difficulty in walking, bending and climbing stairs etc. In other words, sciatica can interfere with your day to day activities.

Natural cures can relieve sciatica pain effectively, but you must consult a doctor before starting a natural cure for sciatica.

How To Cure Sciatica Naturally

Improve Your Posture

Poor posture is often a main cause for sciatica pain. Improper bending, sitting or lying position puts unwanted pressure on the nerve which can trigger pain. While bending down to pick up something you should always bend from your knees to shift the weight on them.

Your spine will be spared from extra strain and pain. When carrying a heavy object such as your laundry bucket or a heavy grocery bag, divide the weight in two parts and carry it in each hand to reduce strain on your lower back.

Keep your neck, shoulders and back upright while working on the computer. Maintain a proper posture while writing or reading. Avoid using more than one pillow while sleeping.

To treat sciatica, sleep on your side and place a soft pillow or a rolled up towel between your knees to reduce strain in the lower back. Sleep on a firm mattress to keep your spine straight.

Stretching Exercises

Stretching exercises help to improve flexibility and range of motion of the spine. They cure sciatica by strengthening the muscles that support the spine. They help to lubricate stiff and degenerative muscles.

You should perform hamstring stretches, back stretches and core muscle strengthening exercises to relieve sciatica pain. Consult a physiotherapist for proper guidance to avoid injury and adverse effects.

Massage

Massage improves blood circulation and it repairs the damaged tissues to cure sciatica pain. Massage helps to relax tense muscles and decrease inflammation.

Massage should be done with light pressure on the nerves and you should use warm oil as it gets easily absorbed in the skin. Sesame oil, herbal oil and essential oils are extremely beneficial for sciatica pain relief.

Hot And Cold Fermentation

Fermentation helps to improve blood circulation and it removes muscle tension to relieve sciatica pain. You should use an ice pack for cold fermentation in the initial stages to arrest the pain.

After 3-4 days use a heating pad or a hot water bottle to increase blood circulation and to relax stiffness in the muscles. You can also use hot and cold fermentation alternatively for sciatica pain relief.

Herbs To Cure Sciatica

Certain pain relieving herbs are also very effective for treating sciatica pain naturally. You can take these herbs as decoction or in form of paste to relieve the pain. Herbal treatment is relatively safe and cost effective. Bitter Chamomile, Nutmeg and Indian Aloe herbs are worth mentioning.
