Scleroderma is basically an autoimmune disorder that results in fibrosis and thickening of the connective tissues. It literally means ‘skin hardening’ and thus results from overproduction of collagen from the body. Scleroderma is generally caused when a person’s immune system attacks the body’s own tissues.
