Ankle sprains are very common and all of us experience them at least once in a lifetime. Ankle being very delicate yet has the strength to take the full body’s weight and is likely to get injured very easily. Playing of sports, a pull in the muscle, unevenly walking or a twisted ankle can cause sprains.
A sprain takes place when the ligaments around the ankle which are stiff and fibrous in nature get ruptured. Healing of sprains take about six weeks to half a year depending whether it is an acute or a chronic one. To minimize and get rid of inflammations the ankle should be raised beyond the position of the heart either by resting on a cushion or a quilt at nights before sleep especially. The raising of ankle helps in reduction of inflammations since the gravity flushes out the extra fluid and mends the injury.
Excessive stress should not be put on the foot which has undergone a sprain and the sports and other activities which cause pain should all be avoided.
Total physical movements should not be avoided rather few exercises which relaxes the muscles should be continued.
Few tablespoons of both the oils should be blended well with a pinch of turmeric powder and should be heated for a span of few seconds.
The mixture should be directly in contact with the skin and massaged for twenty minutes and should be allowed to seep in.
Ice is highly effective and beneficial for sprains and burns. Application of an ice within few hours of sprain helps in reduction of swelling and grief.
For the first three days rubbing of ice every four hours helps in giving relief but diabetic patients especially need to consult a doctor before applying ice.
When a person experiences a sprain, application of an anti-inflammatory ointment like balm or volini sprays towards the affected area and wrapping of a crape bandage helps in overcoming the pain.
The bandages and crutches help in holding, supporting the tissues and helps a person to walk in a proper position.
Various motion activities need to be done by moving the leg in every direction and often exercises which strengthen the ankles should be done by an individual of every age in order to avoid any type of joint or muscle pains in future.
Proper balance postures need to tried and adopted in order to avoid a further injury and a proper physiotherapy should be taken.
An individual needs to wear a good brand and a very comfortable footwear for their daily activities. Wearing of a proper footwear helps in supporting the ankle and provides relief from pain.
