Natural Cures For Blepharitis

Share

Inflammation of the eyelids is referred to as blepharitis. Usually, it affects the edges of the eyelids. It is a chronic eye problem. “Staphylococcal Blepharitis”, “Seborrhoeic Blepharitis” and “Meibomian Blepharitis” are the three main types of blepharitis. It is caused by factors such as bacterial infection (staphylococcus), seborrhoeic dermatitis, rosacea, styes, increased shedding of skin cells near the eyelids, allergy and lice growth that may affect the eyelashes.

An individual may experience symptoms such as yellow/green coloured fluid discharge from the eyes, sticky eyelids, red and swollen eyes/eyelids, dry eyes, blurred vision, burning sensation, sensitivity to light, itchy eyelids and crusting of the eyelashes. An individual should not rub his/her eyes and should remove the eye makeup before bedtime. The problem of blepharitis can be cured with the use of natural remedies.

Natural Cures for Blepharitis

Warm Water

An individual can soak a flannel or face cloth in a small bowl containing warm water for 5 to 10 minutes and place it on the eyelids to soften the skin. The flannel or face cloth can be used to remove the fluid discharged from the eyes after a period of 15 to 20 minutes.

A cotton ball can be dipped in a solution created by adding sodium bicarbonate in warm water and used to clean the eyes multiple times in a day to relieve various symptoms associated with the problem.

Omega-3

Omega-3 is an effective natural cure for reducing the inflammation of the eyelids. Consumption of good sources of omega-3 on a daily basis can help in curing the problem within a reasonable period of time. Omega-3 is found in fish, flaxseeds, walnuts and beans.

Calendula

The anti-inflammatory properties of calendula can help in treating the burning sensation and irritation. Wet calendula tea bags can be placed on the eyes to relieve the eye problem.

An eyewash created with the use of calendula and water can be used to clean the eyes on a frequent basis to deal with the problem. Calendula gel can also be applied on the eyes after washing the eyes with warm water.

Tea Tree Oil

Another useful cure for blepharitis is tea tree oil. Tea tree oil can be directly applied on the eyes with the help of a cotton swab to treat redness and dryness of the eyes and crusting of the eyelashes. Further, it may also prevent the bacterial growth which may result in the eye problem. Application of a mixture of tea tree and castor oil on the eyelids can also provide the desired results.

Water Kefir

Various symptoms associated with the problem of blepharitis can be relieved with the use of water kefir. Use of this natural remedy can protect the eyes from problems such as styes and dermatitis.

Milk

Milk can be used as an effective natural remedy. Cotton balls soaked in raw milk can be placed on the eyes to cure redness, swelling and irritation. Pasteurized milk can also be diluted with water and used for washing the eyes several times in a day to obtain effective results.
