The problem of bunions is medically known as “Hallux Valgus”. It is one of the most common foot disorders. It is caused by factors such as wearing narrow-toed shoes, abnormal formation of the bones, rheumatoid arthritis and injury.
This problem is common among ballet dancers. Symptoms of this problem include redness, pain, stiffness, inflammation and swelling. Different natural cures can help in the treatment of bunions.
An individual can add epsom salt (2 tablespoons) to a bucket containing hot water and soak his/her affected foot in the water to reduce the pain and stiffness caused by the problem. This process should be performed multiple times in a week.
The essential oil obtained from chamomile flowers can be directly applied on the affected foot to control the growth of bunions. A chamomile tea bag (after it has been used) can be placed on the affected toe to treat the inflammation. Chamomile tea can also be consumed multiple times in a day to get relief from the problem.
Turmeric contains curcumin which has anti-inflammatory properties. Turmeric powder can be mixed with mustard oil and applied on the affected toe to deal with the pain and swelling.
Grated turmeric can be consumed with a cup of warm water on a daily basis to obtain the desired results.
Willow contains salicin that can reduce the pain resulting from bunions. An individual can wrap willow bark on the affected area to reduce the problem. Tea prepared with willow bark can also be consumed several times in a day to get effective results.
The pain associated with the problem can also be treated with the use of clove oil. A cotton bandage dipped in clove oil can be placed on the affected toe 2 to 3 times in a day. It is important to note that a fresh bandage should be used each time.
An individual can soak a cheesecloth in warm castor oil and apply it on the affected area to treat the symptoms associated with the problem. This natural remedy should be used on a frequent basis.
Application of an ice pack (created by putting ice cubes in a plastic bag) on the affected foot can reduce the pain and swelling. This ice pack should be kept applied for 10 to 15 minutes. Another alternative is to use a frozen pea bag.
Aloe vera is also known as “Lily of the Desert”. It has anti-inflammatory properties. Aloe vera gel can be directly applied on the affected area to cure inflammation.
Application of a mixture of aloe vera gel and vitamin E oil can also provide relief. Intake of aloe vera juice on a regular basis may prevent the growth of bunions.
Ginger has pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory properties. Fresh ginger can be boiled in water to prepare tea and consumed multiple times in a day to obtain relief from bunions. Intake of ginger juice (1 teaspoon) after each meal can reduce the inflammation caused by the problem.
