6 Remedies For Diverticulitis

Share

Diverticulitis is also referred to as “Diverticular Disease’’. It is a common digestive disease which develops in the inner lining of the large intestine. Deposition of small pieces of feces in the large intestine pouches (colon) results in this disease. Consumption of a low fiber diet and lack of exercise may also lead to diverticulitis.

An individual facing the problem may exhibit various symptoms such as gas, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, abdominal pain or cramping, fever, chills and nausea. The use of different types of natural cures can relieve the problem of diverticulitis.

Natural Cures for Diverticulitis

High Fiber Diet

Eating a variety of high fiber food items can help in preventing the digestive disease. Consumption of whole grains like wheat, barley, oats and brown rice (20 to 25 grams) on a regular basis can provide relief from the problem. Fruits and vegetables rich in fiber can also be consumed on a daily basis to obtain the desired results.

High fiber fruits and vegetables include papaya, blackberry, blueberry, spinach, broccoli and brussel sprouts. Legumes like cooked dry lima or kidney beans, soybeans, chickpeas, split peas, navy beans and pinto beans can also be consumed to increase the fiber content in the body.

Exercise

Regular exercise can stimulate the intestinal activities and reduce the risk of deposition of feces in the large intestine. Different exercises such as gardening, dancing, swimming and cycling can relieve various symptoms associated with the problem. These exercises should be practiced for 30 to 40 minutes on a daily basis. An individual may also opt for brisk walking and jogging.

Lemon

A fresh lemon can be squeezed in a glass of warm water and consumed before breakfast every day to deal with the problem of diverticulitis.

Intake of a combination of lemon juice and club soda can also provide relief. Another alternative is to drink a mixture of lemon and pineapple juice.

Aloe Vera

The anti-inflammatory properties of aloe vera can help in reducing the inflammation of the colon. Aloe vera juice (1/4th cup) can be consumed multiple times on a daily basis to prevent the growth of the disease. Consumption of a drink prepared by mixing aloe vera juice, papaya juice and honey on a frequent basis may also help in the treatment. The gel extracted from aloe vera leaves can also be taken after each meal to obtain the desired results.

Wild Yam

Wild yam is also known as “Dioscorea Villosa’’. It can treat abdominal pain, inflammation and constipation caused by diverticulitis. The anti-bacterial properties of wild yam can help in fighting against the infections which may result in the problem of diverticulitis.

Intake of a cup of tea made by steeping wild yam leaves in water on a frequent basis can provide the desired results. Valerian and black haw can also be added to increase the effectiveness of wild yam tea.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids
