Plantar fasciitis is also referred to as “Heel Spur Syndrome’’, “Tennis Heel’’ and “Jogger’s Heel’’. It is a common condition which results in pain in the heels and soles. It is frequently found in athletes and soldiers. Some of the factors that may result in this problem may include foot arch problems, long distance running on uneven surfaces, obesity, wearing shoes with poor arch support and excessive pronation.
An individual facing the problem may experience severe pain after performing an intense activity, climbing stairs, walking or standing for a long period of time. The symptoms of plantar fasciitis may also include redness, swelling and stiffness in the affected foot. The problem of plantar fasciitis can be treated with the use of various natural cures.
Exercise is an effective way to deal with the problem. An individual can stretch the bottom of the affected foot or the calf muscle to relieve the heel pain. Use of different exercises like the calf raise, point and flex, towel curl and towel grab can treat various symptoms associated with the syndrome. It is interesting to note that picking marbles with the help of the toe and taking a barefoot walk on sand or on a towel can also provide the desired results.
Epsom salt can be used in the treatment of symptoms of plantar fasciitis. An individual can add epsom salt (1 cup) in a small bucket containing warm water and soak his/her affected foot in the solution for 10 to 15 minutes to reduce pain, swelling and stiffness.
