The problem of scabies is also referred to as “Itch” and “Sarcoptic Mange”. It is a contagious skin disease caused by tiny mites known as “Sarcoptes Scabiei”. Further, lack of personal hygiene and weak immune system may also lead to the problem.
An individual suffering from this disease may experience itching, irritation, redness, inflamed skin, bumps, blisters and rashes on the affected area, dry and scaly skin. Different natural cures can be used in the treatment of scabies.
Turmeric contains “Coumadin” which is effective in treating scabies. The inflammatory properties of turmeric can reduce itching and inflammation resulting from the problem. A paste created with the use of turmeric powder, gram flour and milk can be applied on the affected parts of the body to kill mites.
This paste should be kept applied for 30 to 40 minutes. Applying a mixture of turmeric powder and mustard/neem oil on the affected area can also provide the desired results.
Tamanu oil has anti-fungal and anti-microbial properties. It can help in preventing the growth of the skin disease. A gentle massage can be done with tamanu oil on the affected area to relieve the intense itching associated with the problem. This oil should be used on a daily basis.
Apple cider vinegar can be used to wash the personal items of an individual suffering from scabies to prevent mite infestation. An individual can also spray apple cider vinegar in his/her shoes to kill mites.
Apple cider vinegar can be diluted with water and used for washing the affected area several times in a day to relieve the symptoms associated with the problem.
Consumption of food items rich in zinc such as soybeans, sunflower seeds, whole grain products, wheat bran and molasses can treat the problem within a short span of time. An individual should not consume fried and junk food items, food items rich in sugar, soft drinks, alcohol and tobacco to deal with the problem.
The healing and anti-inflammatory properties of tea tree oil can reduce the the redness, itching, inflammation and rashes caused by scabies. Massaging the affected area with tea tree oil on a frequent basis can heal bumps and prevent infections caused by scratching.
A few drops of tea tree oil can also be added to the body wash used for bathing. An individual can soak a cotton swab in a solution created by mixing tea tree oil with spring water and apply it on the rashes to obtain the desired results. A mixture of tea tree and lavender oil can also be applied on the irritated skin.
Oatmeal is another useful natural cure for the problem of scabies. Oatmeal (2 tablespoons) can be soaked in a glass of warm water for 30 minutes to prepare a poultice and applied on the irritated skin to treat itching and inflammation. The affected area should be covered with a cheesecloth and rinsed with warm water after the application. This poultice should be removed after 40 to 60 minutes.
