The problem of shingles is caused by the “Varicella-Zoster Virus’’. Old age people and individuals with weak immune system are at a higher risk of developing this problem. It has been observed that vitamin C can provide quick relief from the problem of shingles pain. A cotton ball soaked in the vitamin C solution can be placed on the affected area for 3 to 5 minutes on a daily basis
Intake of vitamin C rich fruits and vegetables (such as cranberry, strawberry, guava, broccoli, sprouts and so on) may help in the treatment. Regular use of vitamin C may also reduce the frequent occurrence of the pain.
The pain associated with shingles can be cured with the help of relaxation and meditation techniques. Yoga and meditation may help in relieving the discomfort resulting from the pain. Further, it is essential to take appropriate rest and avoid stressful activities. Taking rest may also help in boosting the immune system.
Capsaicin can be applied 3 to 4 times in a day on the affected area to reduce the pain. Regular use of capsaicin cream may also help in reducing the burning sensation resulting from the problem.
Lemon balm is also referred to as “Melissa Officinalis’’. A cotton swab soaked in the solution made by boiling lemon balm in water can be placed on the affected area multiple times in a day to deal with the pain. Lemon balm oil can also be applied on the affected area to obtain the desired results.
Vitamin B12 can also be used in the treatment of shingles pain. Intake of vitamin B12 rich food items may help in relieving various symptoms associated with the problem. Vitamin B12 food items include beef, prawn, fish, milk, egg and so on.
Garlic has anti-viral properties. It is advisable to consume garlic cloves (2 to 3) on a daily basis to obtain relief. Consumption of food items containing garlic is also recommended. Garlic cloves (crushed) can also be added to salad, pasta, soup and so on. A combination of garlic and olive oil can also be applied on the affected area to reduce the pain.
Licorice has immune boosting properties. Drinking licorice tea several times in a day may provide relief from the pain. It is interesting to note that licorice tea can also be directly applied on the affected area (3 to 4) times in a day.
Applying aloe vera gel on the affected area can help in reducing the burning sensation resulting from the pain. A mixture created with the use of aloe vera gel, apple cider vinegar and tea tree oil can also be applied. To obtain quick relief, a mixture of aloe vera gel and cayenne pepper can be used. Consumption of aloe vera juice (half cup) on a daily basis is recommended.
