Natural Treatments For Gas

The problem of gas is medically termed as ‘’Flatus’’. This common digestive disorder is caused by factors such as bacterial growth in the stomach or intestine, consumption of high fiber food items and antibiotics, constipation, food intolerance and excessive use of laxatives.

A person suffering from this problem may experience swelling, tightness, pain and cramps in the abdomen, acidity, vomiting, chest pain, heartburn, weight loss and fever. The use of different natural treatments can provide relief from the problem of gas. However, it is advisable to obtain proper medical treatment for this stomach disorder if the symptoms continue to persist for a long period of time.


Natural Treatments for Gas

Ginger

Ginger is one of the most effective natural treatments for the problem. Grated ginger root can be chewed before each meal to reduce the problem. Tea prepared by boiling fresh ginger root in water can be consumed several times in a day. A mixture of ginger powder and rock salt can be consumed with a glass of warm water before sleeping to get rid of the problem. Frequent intake of ginger juice can also help in the treatment.


Caraway

Caraway is also known as ‘’Carum Carvi’’. The carminative and antispasmodic properties of caraway can help in the treatment. Various symptoms associated with the problem can be relieved with the consumption of caraway seeds. The dried ripe caraway fruit can also be consumed on a regular basis. Caraway oil can be mixed with cinnamon oil and consumed to get the desired results.


Pumpkin

A person can consume pumpkin soup 2 times on a daily basis to treat the medical condition. Another option is to consume boiled or baked pumpkin on a frequent basis. Symptoms such as bloating, flatulence, abdominal tightness and heartburn can be cured with the intake of a mixture of pumpkin seeds and castor oil.


Fennel Seeds

A natural tonic prepared by boiling fennel seeds in water for a few minutes can be consumed on a regular basis to relax the muscles of the digestive tract. Fennel seed powder can be mixed with sugar and milk and consumed several times on a weekly basis. Consumption of a mixture of fennel, anise and dill seeds can also provide the desired results within a reasonable period of time.


Dandelion

Daily intake of a cup of tea prepared by steeping dandelion leaf in water can provide relief from the problem of indigestion and gas. Another option is to consume dried dandelion on a frequent basis to obtain effective results.


Exercise

A person can take a walk after having a meal to prevent gas formation. Different exercises such as skipping, cycling and swimming can also be performed multiple times on a weekly basis to reduce the gas, abdominal pain and acidity. Yoga postures like wind relieving pose, child’s pose, cobra pose and boat pose are highly effective in the treatment of the medical condition.


Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 is also referred to as ‘’Cobalamin’’. It is important to note that vitamin B12 deficiency may result in the formation of gas. Regular consumption of vitamin B12 can also help in curing the symptoms associated with the problem. Shell fish, oysters, fish eggs and crab are some good sources of this vitamin.


Coriander

The powder obtained by grinding coriander seeds can be consumed on a frequent basis to relieve the stomach cramps and pain caused by the problem. This powder can be added to food items consumed on a daily basis. Coriander juice (2 tablespoons) can be stirred in a glass of buttermilk and consumed after each meal to prevent the gas formation.


Activated Charcoal

The problem can be cured with the use of activated charcoal. Consumption of activated charcoal before each meal can help in reducing the gas.


Olive Oil

Application of a mixture of warm olive and sesame oil around the navel area can provide relief from gas, pain and bloating. Consumption of vegetables and soups prepared with the use of olive oil can also help in the treatment. Olive oil can be added to salad items. A mixture of olive oil and apple cider vinegar can be mixed in warm water and consumed on a regular basis.


Lemon

Excessive gas in the digestive tract can be reduced with the use of lemon. Lemon juice diluted in a glass of water can be consumed several times in a day. Intake of a mixture of lemon juice, baking soda and water can also provide relief. Another option is to drink a mixture of lemon juice, carom seeds and water on a regular basis.


Guava

A person can boil guava leaves in water to prepare a natural tonic and consume it 2 to 3 times in a day to deal with the problem. Regular consumption of guava multiple times in a day can provide effective results.


Turmeric

Another effective natural treatment for the problem is turmeric. It has carminative properties. Chopped turmeric leaves can be consumed with a cup of milk on a daily basis to stimulate the production of bile and improve digestion. Turmeric powder (1 teaspoon) can be mixed in a glass of warm water and consumed multiple times on a weekly basis to reduce the formation of intestinal gas.


Asafoetida

A paste created by mixing crushed asafoetida and water can be rubbed around the navel area to treat the symptoms associated with the problem. Asafoetida powder (1/4th teaspoon) can be stirred in a glass of warm water and consumed on a frequent basis. Consumption of a mixture of asafoetida powder, rock salt and dry ginger powder can improve digestion. Another alternative is to consume food items containing asafoetida.


Garlic

Intake of garlic cloves can treat the abdominal pain and bloating associated with the problem. A person can consume food items containing garlic to get the desired results. Another alternative is to use garlic oil in the preparation of various food items.


Parsley

Freshly minced parsley leaves can be consumed to deal with the stomach disorder. Another option is to drink fresh parsley juice to obtain relief from the abdominal pain caused by the problem. Use of this natural treatment can also prevent the formation of gas.
