The problem of poison ivy is also referred to as “Toxicodendron Radicans’’. This skin disease is caused by an oily resin (urushiol) found in poison ivy, poison oak and poison sumac plants.A person suffering from this problem may experience symptoms such as blisters, rashes, swelling, itching, burning sensation and redness. The use of different natural treatments can provide relief from the medical condition.

Natural Treatments for Poison Ivy

Baking Soda

A paste prepared by mixing baking soda and water can be applied on the rashes to reduce itching and irritation associated with the problem.Baking soda (half cup) can also be added to a bucket of warm water to be used for bathing. Application of a mixture of baking soda and cooked oatmeal on the affected area can also provide relief.

Apple Cider Vinegar

The application of warm apple cider vinegar with the use of a small cotton towel on the infected area several times in a day can help in the treatment. Organic apple cider vinegar can be directly applied on the blisters to relieve the itching and redness.

Pascalite Clay

Pascalite clay is another effective natural treatment. Application of a paste made with the use of pascalite clay and water on the affected area can provide relief from rashes and itching.The affected area should be covered with a plastic wrap after the application of this paste.

Himalayan Crystal Salt

Himalayan crystal salt can be added to purified water to create a natural paste and applied on the infected area to cure the symptoms of the problem.Soaking the affected area in warm water containing Himalayan crystal salt for 20 to 30 minutes on a regular basis can also provide the desired results.

Banana

Fresh banana peels can be rubbed on the rashes multiple times in a day to reduce the pain and itching caused by the problem. Application of a mixture of banana pulp and warm water can also help in the treatment of the problem.

Watermelon

Regular application of watermelon rind on the affected area can heal the blisters within a short span of time.A paste prepared by mixing watermelon, lemon juice and turmeric powder can be applied on the rashes to soothe the infected skin and relieve the burning sensation.

Goldenseal

A person can mix goldenseal powder with water/apple cider vinegar and apply this mixture on the affected parts of the body to get relief from the itching and prevent the spread of infection.Intake of a cup of goldenseal tea several times in a day can also help in the treatment.

Witch Hazel

Witch hazel has anti-inflammatory and healing properties. Witch hazel extract can be applied on the infected area with the help of a cotton ball to treat the redness, itching and swelling resulting from the problem.

Aloe Vera

The affected area can be washed with aloe vera juice on a frequent basis to cure the pain and itching. Aloe vera gel can also be rubbed on the rashes to obtain relief from the irritation.
