Tinea versicolor is also referred to as “Dermatomycosis Furfuracea’’, “Pityriasis Versicolor’’, and “Tinea Flava’’. It is a chronic fungal infection of the skin caused by pityrosporum ovale fungus. Further, oily skin, yeast infection, excess sweating, weak immune system, hot and humid climate may also result in this fungal infection.

It may occur anywhere on the body. Symptoms of this medical condition include irregular-shaped patches, itching, dry and scaly skin. Different natural treatments can cure this fungal infection.

Natural Treatments for Tinea Versicolor

Tomato

The acidic properties of tomato juice can prevent the spread of the fungus. A person can mix tomato juice with unpolished rice flour and apply this mixture on the affected area.

A gentle massage should be done after 5 minutes of the application. This treatment should be repeated on a daily basis to relieve the skin disease.

Garlic

Garlic has anti-fungal properties. Garlic cloves (2 to 3) can be chewed on a regular basis to deal with the problem. A cotton swab soaked in a solution prepared by mixing garlic juice, vinegar and oregano oil can be applied on the affected area several times in a day to reduce the infection.

Tea Tree Oil

The anti-microbial properties of tea tree oil can treat tinea versicolor. Tea tree oil can be applied on the infected skin multiple times in a week to get effective results.

A person should dilute tea tree oil with carrier/almond oil if he/she is having a sensitive skin. Application of a combination of tea tree and coconut oil can provide relief from the itching.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Another effective natural treatment for curing the infection is apple cider vinegar. Apple cider vinegar can be diluted with water and applied on the affected area with the help of a cotton ball on a frequent basis to control the growth of the infection.

Pau D’Arco

The anti-fungal properties of pau d’arco can relieve the skin infection. Pau d’arco extract (200 to 300 mg) can be consumed 2 to 3 times in a day to get relief.

The tincture obtained from pau d’arco can also be used in the treatment. A person should consult a medical professional before using this treatment.

Candle Bush

Candle bush is also referred to as “Senna Alata’’ and “Seven Golden Candlesticks’’. The extract obtained from candle bush leaf has therapeutic properties which can treat tinea versicolor. A solution made with the use of candle bush can be used to wash the affected area to clear the lesions.

Turmeric

Application of a paste created by mixing turmeric and sandalwood powder with clarified butter on the infected skin for 30 minutes on a regular basis can reduce the fungal infection.

Turmeric powder can be mixed with water and applied on the affected area to obtain the desired results.

Yogurt

A person can apply unflavoured yogurt on the discolored skin for 30 to 40 minutes on a daily basis to heal the skin and reduce the irregular-shaped patches. Consumption of a small bowl of yogurt several times in a day can also help in the treatment of the skin infection.
