9 Simple Home Remedies For Chafing

Chafing is a condition that occurs when the skin continuously rubs against clothing, or various other things. This irritates the skin and causes redness. This problem can be extremely annoying and painful. The main reasons for this condition are excessive sweating or increased body weight.

This condition can occur in any part of the body. However, thighs, nipples, groin and underarms are the parts that are exposed to a lot of friction and are prone to chaffing. Home remedies are great in treating the sting and pain caused due this condition. Some ways to treat chafing at home are discussed below.

9 Home Remedies For Chaffed Skin

Cooling


There is no better method available than applying ice pack. Placing an ice pack on the affected area is a great way to cool down and remove sweat.

This ice pack can be applied just after you finish any rigorous activity like exercise or walk etc., which cause chaffing. By doing this, you can get rid of the itchiness and redness associated with chaffing. Place the ice pack for at least twenty minutes on the affected area.


Stay Hydrated


Keeping yourself hydrated is a wise way to prevent chaffing. Water allows a person to sweat profusely and reduce chaffing because after the intake of water sweat will not leave salt deposit or dry out the skin.


Antibacterial Soap

Chaffed skin has a tendency of being infected, so it is mandatory to take care of it as you would do in case of an open wound. Use an anti bacterial soap to wash the affected area with some warm water and pat the area dry.

In addition, use an ointment that has anti bacterial properties or you can use an antiseptic spray. It is recommended to cover the area with band-aid or sterile gauze.


Soaking

When the skin is irritated, it is always good to have a warm shower or to wash the face with warm water. Fill the bathtub with luke warm water (not hot water) and add about two cups of baking soda and some essential oil like lavender oil to it (about ten drops). Take a dip in this water for about twenty minutes and then pat yourself dry. You will notice the skin getting better.


Aloe Vera


Aloe vera contains natural oils that help in calming down irritated skin. Mix aloe vera gel and lavender oil to create a cooling solution. Gently spread this liquid on the affected area. This is a great home remedy. The other thing you can do is to make a rejuvenating spray by combining quarter cup aloe vera juice, 8 drops of lavender oil and some brewed green tea. Stir this mixture well and pour it in a bottle.

Spray the affected area 4-5 times in a day. Make sure you keep this solution refrigerated to give you an extra dose of cooling. This helps in reducing itching and gives you immediate relief. Aloe contents in aloe vera is known to repair the damaged skin. Keeping this plant handy can be useful in treating several skin related issues.


Deodorant

People may experience chaffing mainly during summers, especially women. Individuals with well-built body and heavy thighs might experience this condition more because that is the area, which tends to become sweaty leading to itching and redness. The best thing to do during these awkward situations is to apply an anti perspirant or a deodorant that is powdery on those areas and set out to the gym or work. This is very beneficial and helps you feel better.


Corn Starch

Our home and kitchen are the best places to find remedies for some issues. Although it might sound a little weird and make us uncomfortable when we think of these ingredients as remedies, when you start using them you will be amazed at the results.

Corn-starch is one such ingredient that belongs to the healing category. This corn-starch works just like our regular talcum powder. The best part is that it does not create clumps or suck up the moisture, so it is even better. The healing property of corn-starch makes activities like walking, jogging exercising and others enjoyable.


Olive Oil And Oat Meal


Take some oatmeal and a few drops of olive oil and blend them into a paste. This paste is very effective in the treatment of chaffed skin. All you need to do is to generously apply this paste on the chaffed area and leave it for half an hour. Do this once a day.

It is very easy and convenient to do this as you can accommodate this treatment during your TV watching time or reading time. This treatment is good to restore the moisture essential for the healing and it smoothens and relaxes the skin as well.


Other Home Remedies For Chaffed Skin

There are several other ways to treat chaffing. Applying petroleum jelly, using talcum powder, baby powder, or potato starch before any activity are great remedies for chaffed skin.
