6 Simple Home Remedies For PCOS

Polycystic ovary syndrome or (PCOS) is a problem associated with women due to a chronic endocrine disorder. It occurs due to increased levels of the male hormones called androgens, obesity, excessive growth of hair in the body and face, insulin resistance, anovulation, infertility in some women and obesity. Anovulation is a case of no or very few egg production.

The ovaries regularly form follicles, which in turn are developed into eggs, but these eggs might not mature or eliminate from the ovary. The eggs, which do not mature converts itself it to cysts, which are sac like things, filled with fluids. A majority of women suffering from PCOS has a tendency to develop cysts, but not all cases of cyst formation are considered to be PCOS.

The main reason for PCOS has not been determined, however, it might be caused due to genetic reasons. Some research done on PCOS has concluded that it might be associated to insulin resistance and increased levels of insulin. This excessive insulin may enhance the production of male hormones (androgens) from the ovaries, which could stop the process of ovulation and result in swelling and polycystic ovaries.Some home remedies, which can be beneficial in the treatment of PCOS have been discussed below.

Cinnamon


Cinnamon is a spice that is found in every kitchen. This spice is known to be very effective in the treatment of PCOS. Regular intake of this wonder spice is known to elevate the insulin sensitivity, maintains an ideal body weight and balances the glucose level in the blood. You can crush some cinnamon sticks into powder and sprinkle on dishes that you eat.


Apple Cider Vinegar


Apple cider vinegar has been great in the treatment of PCOS. Intake of this vinegar of about one or two tsp before consuming food is considered to be very effective. The changes might not be observed instantly.

This works over a period of time, say about one to six months. It helps in regularizing the menstrual cycle. For some the changes are seen immediately. If you feel that the apple cider vinegar is too concentrated you can begin with smaller quantities and gradually increase it as and when you start liking it.

The primary objective of drinking apple cider vinegar is because of its quality enhancing activity of insulin and decreasing the sugar levels in the blood. Since PCOS is mainly connected with insulin resistance, this home remedy proves very beneficial.


Gooseberries


Gooseberries are highly recommended for women, you mainly notice hair loss that occurs due to PCOS. Apart from that, gooseberries are great in helping women lose the extra flab in their bodies.

It also helps the liver in efficiently eliminating the unwanted deposits. This is much more useful for women, who are affected by the side effects of consuming birth control pills and hormonal medicines for a longer duration.


Flax Seeds


Flax seeds are known to be effective in the treatment of PCOS. Flax seeds consist of Omega 3 fatty acid, which is an important ingredient, required to reduce the bloating caused by PCOS and helps in decreasing the severity of PCOS.


Exposure To Sunlight


Very few women are aware of the fact that exposing to sunlight can be helpful in treating PCOS. This might sound very weird, but it is the best and easiest method used as a home remedy to treat this condition.

The natural source of light from the sun helps in balancing the hormonal levels. This is necessary because PCOS is majorly caused due to an imbalance in the hormones. This is a convenient and effective solution for PCOS.


Practice Lunaception


Lunaception is something that most people are not aware of. In this method, a woman suffering from PCOS should practice sleeping in complete darkness, leaving the 3 nights of the menstrual cycle. The effect of darkness is excellent in treating PCOS.

Darkness is associated with the production of hormones. Therefore, sleeping in a place where there is complete darkness without the hindrance of street lamps, alarm clock lights, night lamps etc can enhance the hormone production while you sleep.

The procedure to follow is to sleep in complete darkness at the start of your cycle for thirteen days and you can use a dim light for the next three days that follow, after which you repeat the process of sleeping in darkness until the thirteenth of the next month.

We understand PCOS as a condition where the periods are irregular. Lunaception actually helps when it’s practiced regularly over a longer period. You can use dim lights on the full-moon-day, a day before and day after that too. The remaining days you can sleep in the darkness.
