Low humidity conditions add to reduction of moisture from body causing dryness. Though, drinking water would not produce immediate results but water would work from roots of the problem. Hence, drinking atleast 8 glasses of water is must to attain healthy skin. Most importantly, try not to replace water with any other liquid such as tea, coffee or anything else.
Using hot water to wash face should be avoided. Hot water removes the natural lipid layer over face, making it dry. Instead of using extreme temperature water, it should be preferred to go for lukewarm water. In addition to hot water, harsh soaps should not be used for washing face. They have actions similar to hot water, depleting protective layer over skin and making situation worst for dry skins.
Egg yolk is a pool of water and fats. It can thus be used as a moisturizer to add life to dead skin. Separate yolk from an egg and mix it with one teaspoon olive oil. Make sure both the ingredients are mixed well. Apply the mixture over clean face and let it dry for about 15 minutes. As soon as the face mask dries, rinse it off. For better results, follow the procedure daily.
Caffeinated drinks (such as coffee) and alcohol prevent water absorption by body. They are diuretics and cause more urination than normal reducing water levels inside body. Those who have dry skin already lack moisture and reduced water levels can worsen the condition. Hence, they should avoid alcohol and caffeine intake. If it is hard to avoid any of these then it is advised to drink lot of water in order to maintain water level.
After washing face, wiping it by rubbing with a towel is not a good idea. One should be gentle to skin especially dry skin. In order to wipe off water, gently dab it with towel until it is nearly dry. Leave it a little wet and apply moisturizer. Moisturizer locks the water within skin keeping it hydrated.
Any of the above methods can be used to get rid of dry skin. But the results would be remarkable only if the procedure is followed continuously. In addition to all these, maintaining a balanced diet is also important to stay healthy. Food rich in vitamin A, C and E should be included in diet for healthy skin.
