Cystitis is caused by bacterial infection, usually by E. coli, which is an inflammation that affects the bladder. It is also called as lower urinary tract infection. Women are more commonly affected with cystitis than men. Women are mostly affected during the first and third trimesters of pregnancy. Common symptoms of cystitis include frequent urination and burning sensation before and after urination. Other symptoms include pain in the lower abdomen or lower back, blood in the urine, smelling urine etc.

It is a chronic condition which causes irritation of bladder and urethra. Causes of cystitis include poor hygiene, pregnancy, obesity, kidney stones etc. Serious form of this disease is called as interstitial cystitis which is permanent in nature.


Top Natural Cures For Cystitis


D-Mannose

D-Mannose is beneficial for the patients suffering from cystitis. Consuming one teaspoon of D-Mannose every two hours is recommended. Using this remedy for a period of two days is beneficial. It can be purchased online as it is not readily available on health stores. This remedy is useful for the patients who suffer from the disease which is caused by E. coli infection.


Drink Water

Drinking plenty of water is beneficial for the patients suffering from cystitis as it reduces the acidity of urine. Water can be consumed in combination with bicarbonate of soda. Drinking 0.25 litre of water along with bicarbonate of soda is beneficial.

Consuming this solution for every twenty minutes is helpful for flushing out the bladder. A maximum of one tablespoon of this solution per hour for a continuous period of two hours is recommended. Those suffering from heart problems should avoid its consumption. Using this remedy two to three times per day would be beneficial.


Cranberry

Cranberry is effective for the treatment of cystitis. It is also available in the form of tablets. These tablets can be purchased from health stores. Drinking unsweetened juice is beneficial. It helps in making the walls of bladder slippery to avoid adherence of bacterial infection.

Consuming one or two glasses of cranberry juice on a daily basis is recommended. It is also available in the form of extract. Extract of cranberry is available in the form of tablet and capsule. It can also be used in diluted form.


Barley Water

Barley water is beneficial for the patients suffering from cystitis. It is one of the traditional remedies for the treatment of cystitis. One handful of pearl barley can be added in one litre of water that can be boiled. Simmering the solution to reduce it down to about five hundred millilitres is required. Drink the solution after it gets cooled. Lemon juice and manuka honey can be added in the solution for better taste.


Foods To Avoid

Patients suffering from cystitis should avoid the consumption of some foods that can worsen the condition of patients. These foods include spinach, milk product, beetroot, asparagus, strawberry, red meat and citrus fruits.

One should avoid the consumption of alcohol, caffeine, orange juice etc. as these are acidic beverages that can cause irritation of bladder. Avoid consuming sugar as it lowers body’s immunity and increases the chances of occurrence of this disease.


Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a good technique for the treatment of cystitis. It is helpful in treating bacterial infection and interstitial cystitis. In this technique, needles are inserted into certain points along the nervous system of body. These needles are helpful for stimulating the skin and muscle nerves.

This technique helps in releasing natural painkillers of body viz. endorphins and enkephalins into the pain pathways of spinal cord. This technique helps in relieving the pain caused by cystitis and triggers the nervous pathways that are responsible for controlling the bladder.


Essential Oils

Take Sitz Bath

Taking sitz bath would be beneficial for the patients suffering from cystitis. Fill a bucket with warm water and sit inside it. It helps in reducing the pain associated with cystitis. One should not add anything to the bath water unless directed by a doctor.


Other Natural Cures

Urinating is beneficial for the patients suffering from cystitis. Urinating as often as possible would help in emptying the bladder. Taking rest would also be beneficial for the patients. Take as much rest as possible as it provide relaxation.

Increase the consumption of fluid as it helps in reducing infection. Placing a hot water bottle on the lower back would help in decreasing discomfort which is caused by cystitis. One should wear clothes that are made from natural materials.

One should avoid the usage of soaps, deodorants or douches that can cause bacterial growth in excessive amount. The affected areas should not be washed too roughly as this can cause irritation. After a shower, one should not rub the affected areas that can worsen the situation.
