Top Home Remedies For Neck Pain

Ice

Ice is beneficial for the patients suffering from neck pain. It is effective in reducing inflammation as well as pain associated with neck pain. Take crushed ice and keep it in a plastic bag.

Cover it using a towel. Application of this ice pack over the affected neck would be recommended. Applying it for around fifteen minutes would be beneficial.


Pain Relievers

Pain relievers can be helpful in the treatment of neck pain. These include ibuprofen and aspirin that are helpful in fighting against inflammation as well as pain associated with neck pain.

Those patients who are suffering from allergies or stomach upset and cannot take these medicines can take acetaminophen which would help in providing relief from pain associated with neck pain. Make sure not to give pain relievers to someone younger than twenty years of age.


Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a good technique beneficial for the patients suffering from neck pain. It has been found to be very useful in treating the chronic form of neck pain.

Massaging and using acupuncture technique would help in providing relief from the tensed muscles. This remedy would provide high intensity pressure inside the muscle.


Massage

Massage would benefit the patients of neck pain. It would help in reducing tension in the muscles and providing a temporary relief from neck pain. This remedy would also promote sleep in the patients. Taking a bath using hot water would be helpful. This would help in providing relaxation to the strained muscles.

Afterwards, one can apply lotion or oil over the affected neck. Rubbing the neck as well as shoulder by applying gentle pressure using fingers in circulation motion would be helpful. Doing this massage for around ten to fifteen minutes is recommended.


Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy is a beneficial technique helpful for treating the symptoms associated with neck pain. It is also known as water therapy as it uses water.

Using warm water on the affected neck for around three to four minutes would be recommended. After application of warm water, use cold water. Alternatively using cold and warm water over the affected neck would be beneficial.


Essential Oils And Alcohol

Essential oils can be helpful in the treatment of patients suffering from neck pain. These oils include citronella oil, lavender oil and tea tree oil etc.

The oils have a number of beneficial properties helpful for providing a healing effect to the patients. One can also massage by rubbing alcohol. Rubbing alcohol over the affected neck would first provide cooling and then warm affect.


Heat

Heat can be used for the treatment of neck pain. It would help in increasing circulation and in providing relaxation to the affected muscles. Standing in a hot shower would be helpful. One can use a hot water bottle also. A wet towel can also be used.

Make sure not to apply the heat for longer period of time. Excessive amount of heat can cause pain and increase the symptoms associated with neck pain. This heat treatment can also be tried after some time of applying cold treatment.

One can use a heating pad for providing heat to the affected neck. Application of heating pad for several minutes would be recommended. This remedy would help in the stimulation of flow of blood in the neck.


Exercise

Exercise is beneficial for the patients suffering from neck pain. Strengthening as well as stretching exercises would help in preventing stiffness. Especially, neck exercises can be performed. This remedy would help in providing relief from pain and inflammation associated with neck pain.

Doing exercise five times per session would be beneficial. Three sessions of exercise on a daily basis is recommended. It would provide relaxation and help in stretching the neck muscles. Meditation and yoga can also be performed by the patients. Aerobic exercise or walking can be helpful for the patients of neck pain.


Good Body Posture

Sitting and standing in a good body posture would be beneficial for the patients suffering from neck pain. Standing with back to a wall and keeping heel several inches away from the wall would be helpful.

Keeping this body posture throughout the day would be recommended. Keeping a good body posture would really help the affected neck.


Epsom Salt

Epsom salt is effective in the treatment of neck pain and related symptoms. It can be added in the bath water. This remedy helps in improving the circulation and providing relief from tension as well as stress.

Using warm water would help the patients of neck pain. Magnesium and sulphate present in the Epsom salt help in providing relaxation to the patients. Continue using this remedy several times would be helpful.


Aloe Vera And Ginger

Aloe vera is beneficial for the treatment of symptoms associated with neck pain. It can be used in the form of gel. Juice prepared from aloe vera has also been found to be beneficial. This remedy would help in providing relief from bad breath, heartburn and mood swings etc.

Ginger is one of the home remedies for treating neck pain. It can be used in the form of powder. Tea prepared from ginger powder can also be useful.
