As a matter of fact, illness, nutritional deficiencies, hereditary factors are some of the other reasons that can lead to dark circles. Therefore, it is important to find the cause to bring about the required changes. Dark circles can often be reduced by using simple home remedies, as it helps in reducing swelling and also shrink the blood vessels. However, seek medical attention in case dark circles get worse or they appear only under one eye.

Cucumber


Cucumbers are known for their skin toning and astringent properties. Moreover, they are easily available in the kitchen. Chilled slices will not only help in lightening the skin, but also impart calming and refreshingly cool sensation. Alternatively, you can apply cucumber juice on the dark circles to get rid of it effectively.

You can also mix the juice of lemon and cucumber in equal amounts and apply it around the eyes. Wash after about 15 minutes. Also, applying a mixture containing cucumber juice, lime juice and lanolin cream under the eyes for fifteen minutes will work wonders.


Potatoes

The bleaching agents present in potatoes help in lightning those unattractive dark circles. Place 2 chilled potato slices on the eyes for roughly 15 – 20 minutes and later you can rinse with water. Grate a raw potato and extract its juice. Soak cotton balls in the extract and use them to apply the juice on the eyes.

Make sure, the cotton covers the dark rings on the eyelids and under the eyes. Leave for ten minutes and rinse with cold water. Also, you can place the grated potato on a muslin cloth and tie it in the form of a bag. Place them above the eyes for approximately fifteen to twenty minutes and rinse with cold water.


Tomato


The juice of tomato will also help in lightening the skin color. Mix together equal amounts of tomato and lemon juice. This must be applied on the affected part two times a day. Also, you can prepare a paste by combining lemon juice (1/2 tsp), tomato juice (1 tsp), gram flour and turmeric (a pinch).

Apply this paste around the eyes and leave for about ten minutes. This is one of the popular ways of treating the problem. Alternatively, you can consume tomato juice combined with lime juice, salt and a few sprigs of mint leaves. This works internally and brings effective results.


Almonds

Almond is one of the superb skin foods and has remained as a time-tested treatment for a variety of beauty enhancements. Use almond oil to massage the area around the eyes. Another option is to mix equal amounts of honey and almond oil and apply it around the eyes everyday. Leave this for ten minutes and rinse with water. Repeat the treatment until the dark circles vanish completely.

You can also prepare a paste using 4-5 crushed almonds along with milk. This will help in lightening the skin. Apply the paste on the area for 10-15 minutes followed by rinsing with cold water. Put cold and hot pads alternatively above the dark rings for 10-15 minutes. Apply almond oil around the eyes before bed time.


Pineapple

A paste prepared with pineapple juice and turmeric powder will help in lightening the color gradually. The antioxidant properties of turmeric powder will help in treating dark circles. Apply the pulp of tomato and pineapple on the frail and delicate area of eyes and rinse with cool water after twenty minutes. This will surely get rid of dark rings and also prevents fine lines.


Milk Cream

Mix lemon juice and milk cream and apply on the dark circles. This remedy is proved to be quite beneficial. A dash of cream is applied over the dark rings for some time and rinsed with lukewarm water.


Onions

Soak cotton in lemon and onion juice. Place it above the eyes for thirty minutes. Continue to do this until you notice visible changes.


Mint Leaves


Prepare a paste of tomato juice and mint leaves and use the paste above
the affected part for effective cure. Also, you can apply a few crushed mint leaves around the eyes. Besides providing a soothing effect for the tired eyes, it also eliminates dark rings.


Tea Bags

Cold tea bags can be applied over the affected eyes. Remove them after about twenty minutes. This acts as an effective remedy for reducing dark circles. Lie down after placing the tea bags over the eyes, so that the bag remains in place. Also, make sure that the tea bag is dry because tea might get into the eyes, if the bag is too damp. Repeat this process 2 times a day for about two weeks.

You will certainly see lots of improvement. Herbal tea bags are not recommended for this purpose except for chamomile tea, as it has antioxidant properties and helps in clearing both puffiness and under eye circles. The tea bags help in dealing with blood vessels around the eyes and make them less visible and less inflamed on your skin.


Rose Water

Dip cotton balls in rose water for a few seconds and place them above the eyes for fifteen minutes covering dark circles. This remedy will yield splendid results, as it rejuvenates and soothes the area around the eyes. It will help in eliminating the dark rings if used continuously for a couple of weeks.


Cold Spoon

You can freeze 2 spoons for ten-fifteen minutes. Remove them once they are very cold and you need to immediately place them on the affected area. This quick fix method will help in reducing the dark circles. Adequate care must be taken while following this procedure as the cold spoon may get stuck to the skin, if it is too cold. This remedy is great for those days, when you want to diminish the dark rings right away.


Pistachios

Pistachios are known to alleviate dark circles. Grind a few pistachios and add chilled milk (1 tsp) to it. Apply this mixture around the eye and leave for about thirty minutes. Rinse thoroughly with cool water. You will start noticing the results after about two weeks.
