Edema is a condition of leg and feet swelling in which liquid in the tissues between the cell spaces gets accumulated. It is a very annoying disease which causes swelling of skin.

It is caused by various reasons viz. lymphatic congestion, weakness of kidneys, liver problems and weakness in the heart valve. Other causes include menstruation, injuries, pregnancy, poor diet etc. Unhealthy lifestyle and overweight can also lead to edema. Symptoms of edema include shiny skin, inflammation, stretched skin and increased size of limb. Other symptoms that are rare include congestive heart failure, kidney failure, lupus, pulmonary edema, rheumatoid arthiritis and cancer. One should use moisturizing creams on a daily basis. One should try to keep proper cleanliness and proper washing of skin injuries.


Use Bandages

Application of bandages would be helpful for the patients suffering from edema. One should use elastic gloves, tapes or banadages and stockings to cover the swollen parts.

Grape Seed Extract, Flaxseed & Cucumber

Flaxseed is beneficial for the patients suffering from edema. One can add flaxseed oil on salad and one can also sprinkle flaxseed meal into the food. This remedy has been found in reducing the symptoms of edema.

Cucumber is helpful for the patients suffering from edema. It helps in reducing water retention in the body. It also helps in removing the toxic materials out of the body that can contribute to eczema.


Drink Water

Drinking water is one of the remedies for the treatment of edema. One should drink plenty of water per day.

Consumption of six to eight glasses of water on a daily basis is recommended. Drinking water also helps in removing excess water and salt from kidneys and the body.


Avoid Salt

Avoid adding salt in the food as it may worsen the condition of the patients suffering from edema. One should not add salt in the food in excessive amount. Also, the patients should avoid the consumption of salty pre processed food.

Patients suffering from edema should avoid exposure to hot and cold environments. Wearing clothes that are suitable to the season would be beneficial. One should not take bath with hot water and avoid exposing the body under the sun. Exposing the body in extreme temperatures would worsen the condition.

A combination of medicinal herbs like redroot, hawthorn berry, juniper berry and leaves and roots of dandelion herb can be prepared. These herbs are available in the form of capsule or powder that is helpful in the treatment of leg and feet swelling.

Consumption of one capsule of each herb three times per day is effective for treating edema. Tincture can also be prepared using these medicinal herbs. Fifteen drops of this herbal tincture can be consumed three times per day.
