Mix 1/8 tsp. of sea salt and three drops of bergamot in one cup of warm water. Stir the mixture thoroughly. Gargle with it 3-4 times a day. It can relieve sore throat to a great extent within 24 hours.
Mix equal quantities of vinegar and sage in warm water and gargle with it. Do it 3-4 times a day. This herbal remedy does not just relieve sore throat but also helps in the treatment of tonsillitis and laryngitis.
Linden can also be consumed in the form of herbal tea, which can be prepared by steeping one tsp. of dried linden flowers in one cup of hot water. Cover the container tightly for ten minutes. Sip the tea hot. It contains a pleasant, mild flavor that soothes sore throats, warms your body and calms your nerves and stomach.
If sore throat is caused by flu infections, you should steep one tsp. of sage also in the mixture.
Likewise, if sore throat is accompanied by fever, you should mix one tsp. of yarrow with linden flowers.
Mix 1 tsp. each of stinging nettle, coltsfoot and mullein in ½ glass of hot water. After 10 minutes, filter the mixture. Add 2 tbsp. of honey into it. Drink it warm for faster relief from sore throat. This herbal remedy is particularly more beneficial for relieving severe hoarseness of throat (when you face great difficulty in speaking).
You can prepare a wonderful herbal syrup to relieve sore throat by mixing dried orange peel (1/8 part), fennel seeds (4 parts), cinnamon bark (1 part), ginger root (1 part), licorice root (2 parts), wild cherry bark (1 part), confrey roots (2 parts), valerian (2 parts) and slippery elm bark (2 parts). Add two ounces of this mixture in one quart of purified water. Boil it at low heat until the mixture is reduced to half. Strain the liquid. Add 2 tablespoons of honey into it. Drink it warm. Besides soothing a sore throat, this remedy also calms cough.
You can prepare another herbal decoction for sore throat by mixing 2 tsp. each of dried couch grass root, corn silk leaves, uva versy leaves and buchu roots in two cups of water. Boil it at low heat for 15 minutes. Strain the liquid and drink it warm. Use this remedy at least three times a day. Couch grass when blended with these herbs can act like a demulcent, which relieves inflamed mucosal linings in the throat. It relieves hoarseness in throat and makes speaking easier.
Mix 1 tsp. of dried anise seeds with 2 tsp. each of dried horehound roots and coltsfoot roots. Pour one glass of hot water into the mixture and let the herbs steep for 20 minutes. Strain the liquid and add ½ tsp. of honey into it. Drink it warm.
Mix equal parts of mallow, comfrey, mullein and coltsfoot root in a container. Pour cold water into the mixture and let the herbs soak in it for twenty minutes. After 20 minutes, bring it to boil at low heat for 10-15 minutes. Strain the liquid. Mix one teaspoon of honey in it and drink it. You can use this remedy 2-3 times a day. Besides relieving hoarseness in throat, it also calms coughing spasms and soothes mucilage.
Take one tsp. of dried sage leaves or 2 tsp. of fresh sage leaves in a container. Pour one glass of boiling water over them. Simmer the herbs for 5-10 minutes. Drink the resulting tea hot. This remedy is very beneficial for those who are also feeling some pain along with soreness in the throat.
Mix one tbsp. honey and the juice of one lemon in one cup of hot water. Stir the mixture thoroughly. You can also add a pinch of cayenne powder for faster relief. Drink it hot. You can use this remedy 3-4 times daily. This remedy soothes irritated membranes and relieves sore or strained throat.
