A sore throat causes pain, irritation and burning that makes it hard for the patients to swallow the food. It is caused by infections due to bacteria or virus. Allergy, dry heat, smoking etc. may be the causes of sore throat.

Salt Water

Gargling using salt water provides relief from sore throat. Add half teaspoon of salt in one glass of water and use this solution for gargling. Repeating this remedy for four times per day is recommended. Salt acts as an antiseptic and draws out water from the mucous membranes inside throat. It helps in reducing the symptoms of sore throat like phlegm and inflammation.


Take Rest & Avoid Smoking

Taking proper rest would be helpful in easy recovery from the infection caused by sore throat. Patients suffering from sore throat should avoid smoking as it is not good for health. Smoking causes irritation in the lining of throat.


Raspberry & Slippery Elm

Prepare raspberry tea by soaking two teaspoons of dried leaves of this herb in a cup of boiling water for ten minutes. Strain it and use it as a gargle. Take one teaspoon of slippery elm bark and dissolve it in two cups of boiling water. Strain it and drink the liquid extract. It contains mucilage that helps in coating the throat and providing relief from soreness.


Garlic & Turmeric

Dried form of garlic has antiseptic and antibacterial properties that are helpful in fighting against infection. Make a solution by adding half teaspoon of turmeric and half teaspoon of salt in a cup of boiled water. Use the tea as a gargle. Gargling the tea for two times in a day is an effective remedy.


Honey & Baking Soda

Having anti-bacterial properties, honey is useful for speeding up the healing process. It is beneficial in reducing the symptoms of sore throat like swelling and discomfort. Prepare herbal tea by adding several teaspoons of honey in a cup of boiling water. Baking soda is also beneficial for treating sore throat. Add half teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of warm water for preparing solution of baking soda. Gargling this solution helps in providing relief from sore throat.


Marshmallow & Echinacea

Root of marshmallow herb contains mucilage that helps in coating the lining of throat. Tea can be prepared by adding two teaspoons of the herb in dried form in a cup of boiling water. Soak for ten minutes and strain. Drinking this herbal tea as three to five cups is beneficial in the treatment of sore throat. The herb has antibacterial properties that are useful for providing relief from sore throat.


Listerine & Horehound

Listerine can be used as a mouthwash. It is an effective remedy for treating sore throat. Prepare tea by soaking two teaspoons of the herb in a cup of boiling water for ten minutes. Strain and drink the tea.


Zinc & Vitamin C

Thirteen milligrams of zinc can be taken for every two hours. It helps in providing relief from viral sore throat. Consuming vitamin C for three times in a day is beneficial for the treatment of sore throat. Taking this vitamin boosts up the immune system and helps in fighting against infection. Those affecting with diarrhoea should not consume it.


Humidifier

One can use humidifier as it helps in adding moisture to the air and preventing the air from getting dried. It also helps in preventing the lining of throat from becoming dry.


Cider Vinegar & Cayenne Pepper

Add half cup of cider vinegar and one tablespoon of salt in a cup of warm water. Gargling the solution for every fifteen minutes is one of the effective remedies for treating sore throat. Another remedy is to mix one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and one tablespoon of honey in eight ounces of boiled water. Cayenne pepper is also useful for the treatment of sore throat. Add one fourth teaspoon of the herb in a cup of boiled water. It is useful in providing relief from sore throat.


Ginger

Prepare herbal tea by mixing one teaspoon of grated ginger, two teaspoons of grated lemon peel and one cinnamon stick in a saucepan and half cup of water and simmer for fifteen minutes. Add three teaspoons of this mixture in a cup of warm water. Drinking the tea is effective in the treatment of sore throat.

Another remedy of preparing the tea is to add black pepper powder and lemon juice in ginger tea. It helps in providing relief from pain in the throat and clearing the blockages.


Horseradish & Marjoram

Prepare a mixture by combining one tablespoon of horseradish, one tablespoon of honey and one tablespoon of cloves.  Add the mixture in one glass of warm water and drink it. Preparing tea from marjoram herb is effective in the treatment of sore throat. Soak one tablespoon of marjoram herb in one cup of boiled water for ten minutes. Strain it and sweeten with honey.


Lemon Juice

Consume one teaspoon of honey along with one teaspoon of lime juice for the treatment of sore throat. Combine one tablespoon of honey with one tablespoon of lemon juice in a cup of warm water. This remedy is beneficial for the treatment of sore throat.


Water

Drink plenty of water. It is useful in moistening the throat. Consuming at least eight to ten glasses in a day is effective in the treatment of sore throat. Inhale the steam coming out of hot water. Add one to two drops of eucalyptus oil in the water. This steaming would provide great relief from sore throat.


Licorice & Sage

Prepare a mixture by adding one teaspoon of licorice in 8 ounces of water. Either drink it or use it for gargling purpose. Liquid extracts of sage leaves can be added in boiled water for the treatment of sore throat. Prepare tea by adding two teaspoons of dried sage leaves in a cup of boiled water. Soak the leaves and strain it. Add a pinch of salt in the tea for taste.Honey and cider vinegar can also be added to the extract. The tea can also be used for gargling purpose. Gargling tea for four times in a day is beneficial.
