Too much exposure to the ultraviolet rays coming mainly from the sun causes reddening of the skin which is known as sun burn. At first the skin turns red, swells and blisters appear accompanied by headache and fever.
Then after some days, the skin peels off and there is an itching sensation. Children are more affected by sun burn than adults. You can easily get rid of sun burn by using some herbs.
Herbs For Sun Burn
Lavender
Take a teaspoon of lavender oil and add some water to it. Mix them well and then apply the solution on the affected area. Massage gently for 10 minutes and then keep it like that for some time.
Do this at least 2 times every day. You can also mix some lavender oil along with some olive oil and then add it to your bath water and take a shower with it or apply it on the affected areas with some cotton balls and massage well. Do this at least 3 times every day.
Chamomile
Take some water, heat it well and then add some chamomile tea bags to it. Take out the tea bags and then apply the tea bags (cooled) directly on the sun burn. You can also take the tea bags and apply them directly on the sun burn and massage gently. Do not rub the tea bags on the affected skin.
Leave the tea bags like that 10-15 minutes. Do this 3-4 times every day. Other than this you can also add the tea or few drops of chamomile oil (5-6) in your bath water and have a shower with it. Chamomile helps to heal the affected skin fast and get rid of the sun burn.
Aloe Vera
Take some pieces of aloe vera and rub them well over the affected area. You should do this 3-4 times every day. You can also apply aloe vera gel directly on the affected area using some cotton balls or add few drops of aloe vera gel to a cup of water soak some cotton balls in the solution and then apply it on the affected area.
Massage gently for 10-15 minutes and do this at least 3 times every day. Aloe vera will help to prevent sun burn because it has great healing properties and thus will provide a cooling effect.
Calendula
Take some calendula petals in a cup of water. After that heat the solution and let it boil. Allow the solution to cool down and come to room temperature and then soak some cotton balls in it and apply it on the affected areas. You can also rub some calendula petals directly on the affected area as it will be very effective in healing the sun burn. Do this 2-3 times every day.
Mint
Take some dried mint leaves and add to a cup of water. Then boil it, let it steep for 10-15 minutes and strain it well. Then soak some cotton balls in the solution and apply it on the affected area.
Do this 2-3 times every day to get good results. You can also apply the mint leaves directly on the affected areas for better results.
Thus by using the above mentioned herbs you can get rid of sun burn within a short time.
