Chewing on sugar-free gums to increase the saliva production in the mouth and thus ease the burning of the tongue is suggested.


Mint Leaves

Mint leaves can be employed to treat burning tongue due to its ability to produce cooling sensation. The methodology: a handful of mint leaves are crushed in a jug of hot water; the mixture is left heating for an hour; it is strained then and the mixture is stored.

Onion, Garlic And Milk

The soothing effect of onion, garlic and milk can be used to make a very effective solution. This is how: two washed onions are peeled and crushed.

The paste is placed on a sieve and to it is added three teaspoons of freshly crushed garlic paste. The mixture is pressed to extract its juice. This extract is mixed with a glass of hot milk to give a solution. This solution is gargled with, two times daily.

Like all other ailments, burning tongue too can be helped by implementing a proper diet. Food rich in vitamin B12 like milk, poultry, liver and egg yolk will accelerate the development of red cells and thus burning tongue will reduce.

Fruit and vegetable juices which are rich in vitamins B and C should be taken. Iron rich food like broccoli, spinach, parsley and other green leafy vegetables are a must. Dietary restrictions include coffee, alcohol and spicy food.


Baking Soda, Lavender Oil And Glycerine

During cases of burning tongue, baking soda and not toothpaste should be used to brush teeth. Baking soda proves to be an immediate source of relief. Application of lavender oil (owing to its antiseptic and pain relieving properties) and glycerine which is an exceptional moisturiser, on the burning tongue will have soothing results. It will also ensure proper blood flow and prevention of microbes forming in the mouth.

These are the most effective home remedies to burning tongue. However, since all of them involve application or intake of certain substance in the mouth, care should be taken that the person is not allergic to any of them. Burning tongue might appear to be a minor, transient irritation in the mouth but in reality might have deep rooted causes and far reaching consequences.
