Patients suffering from hiatal hernia should avoid the consumption of alcohol and caffeine. Taking these can worsen the conditions of symptoms associated with hiatal hernia. Also, patients should avoid smoking as it can increase the risk of disease.


Slippery Elm

Slippery elm is useful for the treatment of hiatal hernia. It has been found to be very effective remedy. It helps in covering the mucous membranes of esophagus with a protective coat.

This coat is helpful in providing relief from inflammation caused by acid. This remedy is also helpful in lowering the excess acidity by stimulating the increased production of mucus. Tea prepared from slippery elm has been found to be effective for the patients.


Chamomile

Gentian Tea

Herbal tea prepared from Gentian herb is useful for the treatment of hiatal hernia. It is helpful in preventing burns and has been found to be very helpful for the digestive system as well. Take one teaspoon of gentian herb and add it in one cup of boiled water.

Simmer for thirty minutes and sprinkle just a pinch of cayenne and ginger in the herbal tea. Drinking this herbal tea one-half hour before taking meals is recommended.


Licorice

Root of licorice herb is beneficial for the patients suffering from hiatal hernia. It is one of the short term methods of curing the disease. Chewable form of licorice has been found to be more effective than other forms though it is not easily available in the market. It is also available in the form of capsules but is not as effective and takes a longer period of time to act.
