Herbal Remedies for Sweating
Lemon Juice
Lemon juice is an effective way of taking care of sweating. Pure lemon juice may sting the sensitive skin of some people, so it is best to dilute it with plain water before application. Squeeze juice of one lemon in a clean bowl and add 200ml of plain water to it. Rub the lemon water all over your body and leave for 45-60 minutes. Bathe yourself using only cold water.
Lemon helps control the overactive sweat glands. The enzymes present in the lemon juice also open the skin pores that have been clogged as a result of sweating. This allows the skin to breathe better. Using lemon water treatment every day will help control excessive sweating and also deal with the problem of body odor caused as a result of sweating.
Sandalwood
Sandalwood powder is derived from the bark of the sandalwood tree. However, the powder is available in two colors, red and white. White sandalwood powder can be used for taking care of excessive sweating. The powder has enzymes that absorb the extra moisture from the skin leaving it clean and dry. Dry skin is less likely to fall prey to infection causing micro-organisms. Sprinkle sandalwood powder on your armpits, on your chest, on the back as well as on the pelvic area.
Women should use the powder underneath the breasts and on the sides. Do this after bathing and drying yourself. Gently rub the powder into the skin. Sprinkle the sandalwood powder after every three hours if you are troubled by excessive sweating. The fragrance of sandalwood will take care of body odor as well.
Witch Hazel
Witch hazel is one herb that can be used for treating any type of skin condition including sweating. The herb has a light and pleasant smell that can be effectively used for masking body odor as well. Sun dry the roots of witch hazel and then grind them to very fine powder form. Mix the powdered roots with a little water to prepare paste. Apply the paste all over your body and leave on for an hour. Wash off the paste using plain cold water. Do this treatment every day for controlling sweating.
You can also take bath with witch hazel water. Steep the roots of witch hazel in a liter of very hot water for 30 minutes. Allow the water to cool and then strain it. Discard the boiled herb. Pour the treated water in the bath tub and add some plain water to it. Soak yourself in this bath for 15-20 minutes. You will come out feeling clean and will remain dry and fresh smelling through the day.
Mint Juice
Mint juice is an effective remedy for treating excessive sweating as well as for masking body odor. Take plenty of mint leaves and wash them well under running water. Grind the mint leaves in the jar of your electric mixer by adding very little amount of water. Apply this paste all over your body and leave for 20 minutes.
Mint has cooling effect on your skin and is a good remedy for beating the summer heat. Clean the mint paste from your body using plain water. Do not use soap. Doing this treatment every alternate day will take care of the sweating as mint will keep your body naturally cool. You can even use cucumber in place of mint since cucumber too is an effective remedy for keeping cool and sweat free during summers.
Aloe Vera
Aloe vera is one herb that is now available in almost all houses. The effectiveness of the herb has been proved time and again. It can be used for curing so many infections, disorders and diseases. It also makes for an excellent beauty treatment if you run out of your cosmetic products. Not many people are aware that aloe vera can be used for controlling excessive sweating in summers.
Take out the aloe vera gel by splitting the aloe leaf. Refrigerate the gel for 30 minutes and then rub it all over the body. Leave on the skin for 45 minutes and then go for your bath. Use only plain water for bathing. Do this treatment every day to keep the body cool and to reduce sweating.
Tea Tree Essential Oil
This herbal remedy is an effective way of treating body sweating. Tea tree oil not only helps cool down the body but its antifungal properties ensure that the fungi do not infect your body as a result of excessive sweating. Tea tree oil is mainly used for treating sweaty and smelly feet. However, it can be used on other parts of the body as well to control sweating. Mix tea tree oil with very little coconut oil and apply it on all parts of the body taking special care to cover the parts that tend to sweat a lot. Leave on for an hour and then bathe using cold water and medicated soap. Do this treatment every day to keep sweating and infection at bay.
Astragalus
This is not a commonly known herb but Ancient Chinese medicine makes extensive use of Astragalus for its diuretic properties. It is this diuretic property of the herb that takes control of the sweating. However, the effectiveness of the herb is dependent on the nature of your problem. For example, the herb can either increase or decrease your sweating. Hence, you will have to first sample test the herb before using it as a remedy against sweating.
