Rubella is commonly known by the name German measles and it happens when a virus named the rubella virus affects the skin and the lymph nodes. It is very risky for a pregnant woman to get infected by rubella in the first three months of her pregnancy, as that can kill the foetus. The virus can spread through droplets produced from the mouth and nose of an infected individual. Rubella is associated with the outbreak of red rashes, headache, runny nose and mild conjunctivitis.
But some infected patients may not have symptoms at all. However, it is essential to get a proper diagnosis if you suspect some red rashes with fever for consecutive days. Apart from many medicines and drugs, there are natural methods to cure this disease. Some of the effective herbal remedies for rubella are:
Both of these herbs can be used as herbal remedies for rubella. Dried catnip can be bought from the market. It is best, if you are purchasing organic catnip. You can also grow catnip in your garden and use fresh catnip leaves.
Take about 3-4 teaspoons of catnip leaves in a cup. Boil a cup of water and let it cool down a bit. Pour this water into the cup. Let it steep for 10-15 minutes. You can add mint leaves or lemon balm leaves to give it flavour. Eating a clove can also cure rubella. You can also apply clove oil on the rashes.
Take few peppermint leaves and tear them into small pieces. Spread these tiny pieces of leaves in a large tray and let them dry for nearly 24 hours. Check whether the leaves have turned crunchy.
Take water in a saucepan and boil the water. Add the leaves and let it steep for some time by covering the saucepan by a lid. Strain and add sugar. Drink the tea 2-3 times to get relief from the headache associated with rubella.
Lobelia also known as Indian tobacco is also an effective herbal remedy for rubella. Taking about ½ teaspoon of this herbal extract every 5 hours can give you relief from the pain of the rashes.
Lobelia should not be used for a very long stretch. Olive is used for the treatment of various skin infections. You can apply a paste of olive leaves and water on the rashes to prevent further infection. Consumption of olive oil is also beneficial.
Garlic is a natural antimicrobial herb. It is used for the treatment of various diseases. Make a paste by crushing few cloves of garlic with a little water. Apply that paste on the rashes generously and let it dry.
Rinse them using cold water. You can also eat a clove of raw garlic every morning to keep boost your immune system. Garlic capsules are also useful.
Goldenseal extract can also be used to lessen the effects of the virus. Make sure of using alcohol free goldenseal extract. Use about 3 drops of the extract for children between the ages of 3 and 10 while for children above 10 and adults, use 1 dropper. Keep the extract under the tongue for some time before swallowing it. Pregnant women should not use this method. Use it for three days. Goldenseal extract can be mixed with Echinacea extract and used as well.
