Lice are nothing but the insects without wings, which are a common occurrence and can be easily transmitted. They are a class of parasites, which spend their entire lifespan feeding on the human scalp, exclusively on human blood.
Presence of lice is not a big problem, but its long-term presence can create a lot of problems like disturbance while sleeping, blood soaking from the scalp, etc. There are numerous ways for preventing or curing head lice, but natural remedies are the best way to tackle them.
This is a natural insecticide and can treat head lice. However, this should not be directly applied to the scalp. For using it as a cure for head lice, mix four to five drops of this oil into an ounce of normal shampoo and wash your hair with this mixture. You can also add 15 drops of this oil to two ounces of water and spray on hair while nit combing.
Nit comb is a fine-toothed comb which can be used for removing lice from the hair. You should comb for at least thrice a day during the treatment, after one week, comb once at night. It will gradually remove newly hatched lice and the eggs. After the comb is used, comb should be soaked in vinegar for a minimum of half an hour or in hot boiling water for five to ten minutes. Herbal infusion can be prepared using fresh or dried thyme flowers and leaves. This preparation can be used as a spray onto hair while nit combing.
Like tea tree oil, neem oil, is also a natural insecticide. It has anti-bacterial, anti-fungal properties, which help in removing head lice. For the treatment of head lice, a neem based shampoo could be used or a few drops of neem oil can be added to the normal shampoo and can be used for washing hairs.
Take a one-eighth cup of neem oil, a quarter cup of sesame seed oil, half-teaspoon of eucalyptus, one teaspoon tea tree oil, half teaspoon of rosemary essential oils and ten drops of Bulgarian lavender essential oils and whisk together all the contents. Apply this on the scalp and hair, cover your head with a shower cap, and leave as it is for about 6-7 hours or overnight. For the removal of the dead lice nit comb can be used. Repeat the procedure daily, for five days, for best results.
Apple cider vinegar can also be used for treating head lice. Rinse your hair with vinegar before shampooing. This helps in getting rid of head lice. Another way of using vinegar is to soak your hairs with vinegar and then leave as it is for some time. After a few minutes, comb with a nit comb.
8-10 cloves of garlic could be ground into a paste and could be added to 2-3 teaspoons of water or lime juice to make a paste. If you are using water to make the paste, then you can add ten-fifteen drops of tea tree oil also. This paste can be applied to the scalp for about a half-hour for curing head lice. After this, paste can be rinsed out.
